20 Jahre TUD-Modelltechnik

20 years of TUD Modelltechnik

The company TUD-Modelltechnik was founded in 2003 by Andreas and Martin Herrig and Franz Demmler. So today in 2023 we can look back on a 20-year history. And it’s a success story! Our business area is the manufacture of high-performance glider models for the FAI glider classes. We see ourselves as a small luxury manufacturer that offers models for the sporty professional as well as for the ambitious leisure pilot.

The designs were penned by the multiple FAI world and European champions Andreas and Martin Herrig and have proven their excellent performance at many international competitions in the F3B, F3F and F3K classes around the world. Not only many years of practical experience, but also extensive theoretical background knowledge in the field of aerodynamics and statics find their way into the designs. Our philosophy combines outstanding aerodynamics for uncompromising competition with good handling, first-class product quality, proven durability and careful, evolutionary product maintenance.

The undisputed flagship is the Freestyler family for classes F3B and F3F. Although they have been on the market for many years, the dominance of these models in the relevant classes is unbroken. Cautious interventions and further developments in the areas of wing and fuselage lay-up through the introduction of new materials, backlash-free and stiff rudder linkages as well as adapted setups show that these proven designs have still not reached the zenith of their performance and promise further potential for the future. But our models have also positioned themselves successfully in the rapidly developing F3K class.

The first model to leave our company at the end of 2003 was the DLG Aspirin, a design that was among the top brands for a long time before it was replaced in 2007 by the successful product SALpeter. This model has also been a success worldwide and has repeatedly undergone modifications that make it competitive to this day. The current FAI European and World Champion titles in 2012 and 2013 were flown with this model in addition to countless competition victories. For health reasons, however, we have had to stop DLG production in the meantime.

With the GPS Scale „Glasflügel 604“ we have been successfully represented in these classes since 2023.

In the future, too, the general public will be able to share in our innovative strength in this way. If we think it’s time to do something new, we will continue to do so in the future. But only when we are sure that we can offer something better. New at any price is not our philosophy.
